ASL 166Basic American Sign Language II(3 credits)
A continuation of the fundamentals of American sign language. Designed for the following majors: Speech Pathology, Nursing, Psychology, Education majors and minors, and all students with an interest in learning sign language.
This course focuses on continuing to develop intermediate fluency in both expressive and receptive skills in American Sign Language. The content will emphasize skill development at an intermediate level, and an increased general understanding of American Sign Language and its applications. Current events related to the Deaf community will also be addressed during this course.
Course Rotation: PLV: Fall & Spring
Prerequisites:ASL 165 and ASL 166 with a minimum grade of C.
ASL 280Intensive Review of ASL(3 credits)
An intensive review of ASL I and II, with the following learning objectives: focusing on meaning rather than individual signs during a conversation, confirming information by asking questions or using a sign in context, focusing on the whole rather than parts of the message, and participating in Deaf community events using ASL. Designed for students with existing knowledge of ASL, this one course with a passing grade satisfies the core language requirement.
