Dance (DAN)

DAN 196A  Topic: Theater Dance I (Beginning/Intermediate)  (2 credits)  

Class at Broadway Dance Center based on skill placement. Students will develop their technique and ability to execute Broadway Theater dance forms. Students will learn to execute steps and integrate them into dance combinations suitable for audition. History of the dance form will also be stressed.

Prerequisites: DAN 101 or DAN 102 or permission of Chair.
DAN 196B  Topic: Tap Dance I (Beginning to Intermediate)  (2 credits)  

Class at Broadway Dance Center based on skill placement. Students in a studio class acquire and improve their technique in Tap Dance in a variety of styles (soft shoe, hoofing, 40's style, etc.) Students will learn to execute steps and integrate them into dance combinations suitable for audition. History of the dance form will also be stressed.

Prerequisites: DAN 101 or DAN 102 or permission of Chair.
DAN 196D  Musical Jazz Dance Theater  (3 credits)  

A combination of Modern, Ballet and Jazz stylistic focus on Contemporary Musical Theater dance.

Prerequisites: Open to Theater majors only.
DAN 196F  Topic: Dance History  (3 credits)  

Students will learn the history of dance beginning with ritual and social dance and culminates with contemporary dance of the 21st century. Dance will also be examined parallel to its collaborative disciplines as a reflection and outgrowth of social and historical climates.

DAN 296  Topics in Dance  (3 credits)  
DAN 296B  Ballet II  (3 credits)  

A continuation of work begun in Ballet I. Students will work on alignment and improvement in barre, petit allegro, adagio, and turns. Combinations created by the instructor and drawn from standard repertoire will be learned.

Prerequisites: DAN 110 or permission of Department.
