English, Writing, and Rhetoric, BA | Pace University New York

The BA in English, Writing, and Rhetoric degree focuses on the art and craft of writing, helping students develop the skills to communicate effectively, think critically, and create with purpose. Through a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, majors explore a wide range of communication practices, including creative, professional, and technical writing, rhetorical and persuasive composition, and multimodal projects. They also receive close faculty mentorship, participate in small, engaging courses, and build a digital portfolio to showcase their work. The flexible curriculum allows students to tailor the major to their interests, whether emphasizing critical writing, creative expression, or a combination of both. It integrates cross-disciplinary coursework with hands-on projects and career-ready milestones that prepare students to contribute meaningfully to academic, civic, and professional communities. Students also join a vibrant community of writers, contributing to the literary arts magazine CHROMA, joining the Artists in Residence Program, and participating in readings, workshops, festivals, and off-campus events through partnerships that extend learning beyond the classroom. Collaborations with regional cultural leaders, including the Hudson Valley Writers Center, ARC Stages, Bethany Arts Community, Jacob Burns Film Center, Westchester Magazine, Gordon Parks Foundation, and The Pocantico Center, provide access to writing-intensive experiences, internships, and professional networks. These opportunities enable students to apply their skills, gain industry insight, and build professional and creative networks that support their growth.
