The five-year combined degree program in Economics (ECO) and Public Administration (PAA) prepares students for professional careers in local, state and federal governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, research Think Tanks, and healthcare organizations. Students will gain a unique set of skills that combine critical thinking, data analysis, public and financial management, budgeting, program assessment and evaluation and policy analysis.

This accelerated combined degree program consists of 150 credits and creates an integrated path from undergraduate to graduate study, allowing students to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years without interruption. Full-time students may complete this program in four to five years, depending on whether they take summer classes, with an additional 30 credits completed beyond the requirements for the BA degree. Up to four MPA graduate courses (12 credits) can be used to fulfill undergraduate economics electives.

Note: Students who meet the admissions criteria of this program must file a formal application with the Office of Graduate Admissions during their junior year of study after receiving approval from their faculty adviser. Transfer students may be admitted who satisfy all the course and admission requirements.

The criteria for admission to the Graduate portion of the program are as follows:

  • Completion of at least 64 undergraduate credits and junior class standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • GRE is not currently required.
  • Transfer students may be admitted to the program if they have satisfied all requirements listed above.
