Academic Advising and Student Success

Campus: NYC, Westchester

Academic Advising at Pace University is delivered through a school-based model within a university-wide framework led by the Division of Student Success & Integrated Learning. Each school maintains a dedicated advising unit to support students from entry through graduation.

First-Year Advising

Each school has a team of First-Year Advisors (FYAs) who work specifically with incoming first-year students beginning prior to their first semester and continuing through the completion of the first academic year. First-Year Advisors support students as they transition to college-level expectations, navigate initial course planning and registration, and build foundational academic and decision-making skills.

FYAs partner closely with First-Year Seminar instructors to monitor academic progress, support students’ adjustment to university life, and connect students to appropriate campus resources. This coordinated, proactive approach ensures that new students receive structured guidance throughout their first year.

At the conclusion of the first year, students transition to a major advisor within their school who will support them through the remainder of their academic program.

Major Advising

After the first year, students are assigned a professional major advisor within their school who provides ongoing academic planning, degree progress review, and developmental guidance aligned with the student’s program of study.

Major advisors partner with students to:

  • Develop and review academic plans to ensure timely progress toward graduation

  • Conduct regular degree progress reviews and academic audits

  • Support course selection and curriculum sequencing

  • Clarify university policies and procedures

  • Explore internships, experiential learning, study abroad, and career-aligned opportunities

  • Address academic challenges and connect students with campus support services

Students are expected to engage with their academic advisor regularly and at least once per semester.

Transfer Students

New transfer students are assigned to a major advisor within their school at the point of enrollment. Transfer students work with their major advisor from entry through graduation, ensuring continuity in academic planning and degree completion.
