The Center of Excellence in Healthcare Simulation (CEHS) offers state-of-the-art resources at both the Pleasantville and New York City campuses for all degree programs in the College of Health Professions. Staff members are highly qualified simulation educators and technology specialists which support and enhance clinical and didactic teaching and learning.
The CEHS lab offers a diverse range of simulation modalities and resources for hands-on, active, and immersive learning. The lab rooms replicate various care environments, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community settings. Learners gain experience in numerous specialty areas, such as pediatrics, maternity, medical-surgical, emergency, and critical care units. Equipped with high-fidelity family of manikins such as Geriatric Nursing Anne, Sim Man 3G, SimMan Essential, SimMom, SimJunior, and SimBaby, and SimNewB, the learners can practice scenario-based educational experiences across the lifespan.
The CEHS lab also features task trainers for procedural skills and human patient simulators (manikins) which mimic human physiology. The extensive standardized patients (SPs) program enhances learners’ development of history taking, physical examination, counseling, and therapeutic communication skills. A cloud-based digital audio-visual system captures student performance both on campus and during remote sessions. The playback feature promotes self-reflection and facilitates improvements during debriefing sessions. The resources at the simulation center are crucial in developing students' fundamental skills, clinical competency, and advanced diagnostic reasoning within a safe and supportive environment. The center prepares learners for interprofessional collaboration and seamless transition to clinical practice.
